What is a good dividend yield?

It depends on the sector and interest-rate environment. Indian large-cap dividend stocks typically yield 1–4%; PSUs and utilities can exceed 5%. Compare with the risk-free rate before deciding.

Is dividend yield the same as dividend rate?

No. Dividend rate is the dividend as a percentage of face value. Dividend yield uses the current market price and reflects the actual cash return on your investment.

Is dividend income taxable in India?

Yes. Since FY 2020-21, dividends are taxed in the hands of the investor at their slab rate; companies deduct TDS at 10% if annual dividend exceeds ₹5,000 per company.

Should I use trailing or forward dividends?

Trailing 12-month dividends are factual. Forward (projected) dividends rely on company guidance and can be revised; use them only as a planning estimate.
